Squalane
The brand uses squalane as their key ingredient in their entire product line. What is squalane, you ask? To clarify, our body produces it own version of squalane called squalene (with an e) and is basically what keeps our skin moisturized and elastic. However, as we get older our skin produces less squalene, which results in dryness and aging.
In the past squalene that was used in skincare was typically being harvested from sharks, because shark livers are filled with squalene.
Luckily, Biossance found a way to create their own version called squalane, made from sustainable sugarcane, which you could say, saves the lives of millions of sharks per year.
